Facebook deleted the 652 fake accounts and pages associated with Russia and Iran late on Tuesday night. Facebook suspected that these accounts were being used in political interference in America, the UK, the Middle East and Latin America.

According to Facebook, different campaigns were being run from these accounts and pages. Three of these campaigns were linked to Iran. Liberty Front Press campaign was running on an account linked to Iran: Facebook said that "Liberty Front Press" campaign was being run on a fake account linked to Iran. It also came to the notice of the support of the Iranian media. At the same time, three other campaigns were found on Facebook and Instagram account. They were posting political content related to the Middle East, the UK, US and Latin America. Some of these accounts were running from 2013. About 1.55 lakh people used to follow these fake pages. At the same time, for a Facebook page and Instagram account, only $ 6000 (Rs 4.18 lakh) was spent in advertising in August 2018.

Anti-American messages were promoted: Cyber ​​security company FireI, which tracks campaigns running through Facebook pages, said that Facebook's fake account and page are based on anti-Saudi, anti-Israel, anti-Palestine themes. It is considered to be a political interest of Iran. Also, American deals in Iran's favor were promoted through a fake account. In addition, information about anti-trump messages was also received. However, these Facebook accounts did not get any link from the presidential election of 2016.


According to Facebook, accounts for the three campaigns related to the three campaigns and their connection to the second operation of the 9th Instagram account, the first campaign was linked to the Liberty Front Press. There is mention of breaking cyber security, hacking and spreading malware. In the third campaign there were 168 Facebook pages, 140 accounts and 31 instagram accounts. They were being targeted on Middle East, UK and Europe. Apart from this, the fake pages and accounts found in the fourth campaign. They are considered to be from Russia. These accounts were being posted to Syria and Ukraine related content. Facebook had deleted 32 fake Facebook pages and accounts on Tuesday. The company suspected that it could affect the mid-term elections in the United States.
