19 thousand 799 children have died in Maharashtra within a year. Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant gave this information during the monsoon session in the assembly. They said that most deaths occur prematurely due to childbirth, low birth weight and infectious diseases at birth.

Presenting the data from April 2017 to March 2018, Sawant said in his written reply that children have died due to diseases related to respiratory and pathological problems since birth. He did not mention the age of children in his answer.

The Health Minister said, "The women and child development department is taking many important steps to deal with these deaths. Many schemes are being run with the help of Anganwadi, under which nutritious food, Many facilities, including health check-up, education and immunization, are being given, and women are given free treatment for one year after 42 days of delivery and after birth.
